LAHORE: Peoples Party Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the COVID-19 in Punjab has become a grave threat due to the negligence of the rulers, adding the epidemic is even more dangerous than storms and earthquakes, so extreme caution is needed to fight the epidemic.
Presiding over a video-link meeting of PPP Lahore chapter on Saturday, Kaira said that PPP office bearers should jointly contribute during the on-going period of COVID-19 pandemic.
He warned that the prime minister’s hesitation could prove fatal to the country.
The PPP has always been at the forefront of public service, the whole world is praising the efforts of the Sindh government under the visionary leadership of chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he remarked.
He stated Punjab was much behind in testing the suspected cases of Covid-19, while the virus was spreading fast in the province.
While directing the office bearers and workers, the PPP Punjab president that there is a need for continuous national awareness campaign across the country against corona virus, take part in awareness campaign against corona virus and take positive and responsible role in this crisis, provide food, masks, sanitizer or whatever possible help to poor people around you.
He urged the PPP ticket holders and office bearers to generously help poor people in their Constituencies as much as possible. He suggested to PPP Lahore to establish a charity fund under the supervision of PPP Lahore president Haji Azizur Rehman Chan so that masses could be supported in this hour of need.
Addressing the meeting, General Secretary of Punjab Chaudhry Manzoor said that the countries that did not take Corona virus seriously are facing dangerous consequences, adding there were record deaths in the United States yesterday, which is a major tragedy in human history.
He maintained the federal government and the Punjab government did not take the matter of the crises seriously, the government first made a mistake in Taftan, then delayed the decision on the Tablighi gathering due to this negligence and mismanagement Corona spread in Pakistan.
The poor people are still not getting relief relief, not knowing where this money is going? He asked.
The money belongs to the Benazir Income Support Program while the government is calling it Ehsah Program, he said. Disbursement centers due to public gatherings can cause the spread of Coronavirus. He said that workers should refrain from attending meetings and disseminate awareness campaign among the people about Corona.
Addressing the meeting, PPP Punjab Parliamentary Leader Syed Hassan Murtaza said that the Sindh government’s steps were appreciated and followed in the meeting of the All Parties Special Parliamentary Committee in the Punjab Assembly.
He added : “I gave a suggestion to give relief to the poor people by exempting them from the utility bills up to 5000 rupees for some months,” said PPP leader. He was of the view that there is a need to strictly implement the lockdown in the whole province because it is the only medicine to fight the COVID-19. I gave them a suggestion to convene the meeting twice a week over the situation of corona virus in the province.”
Hassan Murtaza maintained that all opposition parties, including the PPP, have rejected PTI’s Tiger Force; human society needs humans and human values, not ‘tigers’ for the betterment of the society, adding Tsunami, and PTI’s Tigers have caused catastrophic and destruction in Pakistan.
Hassan Murtaza further demanded that the government increase the poverty score of Benazir Income Support Program by 25 points so that another five million people could be benefited.
The government should increase the testing facilities at the division and district level and ensure the supply of PPE kits, he demanded.
The PPP Lahore chapter president Aziz-ur-Rehman Chen said that PPP was organizing work in almost every zone and urged the participants of the meeting to help the poor with cash.
